Just because the weather is cool, doesn’t mean you can skip the water bottle.

In fact, during winter sports, your body is still working hard—whether you're running up and down a field, cheering from the sidelines, or wrangling kids at early-morning training. And when you're cold, you may not feel thirsty, even when you're dehydrated.

Here's how to stay hydrated this winter, no matter what your role is:

For Players

Winter sports can be deceiving. Cold air masks sweat, but your body’s still losing fluid—especially through your breath in dry air.

  • Bring a refillable bottle of spring water and sip regularly, not just when you're parched.
  • Pre-hydrate an hour before the game or training.
  • If you're playing back-to-back games or in dry/cold winds, add an electrolyte boost to your post-game bottle.

💡 Our Big Springs individual bottled spring waters are the perfect grab-and-go option for busy sport days.

For Kids

Let’s be honest—hydrating your kids in winter can be a battle. But whether they’re on the field or waiting for their turn, they still need fluids to stay focused and energised.

  • Pack their own small water bottle and remind them to drink between drills or halves.
  • If they complain it’s too cold for water, try lukewarm water from a Big Springs cooler or mix in some fruit slices to make it fun.
  • Hot chocolate after the game? Sure. But water first!

For Spectators

Yes, you! Standing in the cold still takes a toll—especially if you're layered up and on your feet for hours. And sipping coffee all morning doesn’t count as hydration.

  • Keep a water bottle in your bag or car (we won’t judge if it’s beside a thermos of soup).
  • Alternate hot drinks with plain water.
  • If you’re on canteen duty—offer a mix of hot and cold hydration options.

Whether you’re on the field, off the field or cheering from the sidelines, hydration is key—even in the cold.

Big Springs Water is proud to keep local sports clubs, families and workplaces hydrated all year round with clean, carbon-neutral spring water.
